Volkswagen Australia has officially withdrawn from the Policy Advisory Committee of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, following Tesla’s recent departure. The move comes as part of Volkswagen’s distancing strategy from the lobby group’s campaign against proposed new fuel standards.
In a letter to fellow committee members, Volkswagen emphasized its independent stance on public and policy matters, particularly the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), stating that a robust NVES is in the country’s best interests. The decision mirrors Tesla’s protest against false claims made by the lobby group and its opposition to the proposed vehicle efficiency standards that penalize emissions-intensive models. This development underscores the growing rift within the automotive industry regarding the environmental regulations proposed by the Australian government.
