An Australian computer scientist who has professed to be the brains behind bitcoin has been officially refuted by a judge at London’s High Court. Craig Wright, who has long asserted himself as the inventor of the cryptocurrency under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, had his claims dismissed in a ruling on Thursday.
Wright’s assertions stemmed from his alleged authorship of a 2008 white paper, considered the cornerstone document of bitcoin, released under the name “Satoshi Nakamoto.”
The Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) instigated legal proceedings against Wright to prevent him from suing bitcoin developers, seeking a definitive judgment that he is not Satoshi.
Judge James Mellor delivered the verdict, declaring that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto. He pledged to provide detailed reasoning for his decision at a later stage.
