Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature might soon make its debut in China, according to Elon Musk, the CEO of the electric vehicle (EV) giant. Musk, responding to a query on social media, hinted at the imminent possibility, stating, “It may be possible very soon.” Despite its global rollout four years ago, Tesla has yet to introduce FSD in the Chinese market, despite increasing demands from customers.
This delay has provided an opportunity for Chinese automakers to vie for a competitive edge by developing similar software. Xpeng, a prominent player in the Chinese EV market, recently announced plans to upgrade its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and aims to offer its entire suite of functions to drivers across China by 2024. Xpeng’s XNGP ADAS system bears resemblance to Tesla’s FSD technology, intensifying the competition in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
