Why Hoda Kotb, host of “Today,” left New York City: “I walked my kids to school like normal people”

The longtime TV host talks about positive changes to her life

Hoda Kotb talked about how her choice to leave New York City and move to Bronxville, New York, has made her 5-year-old daughter Hope’s health a lot better.

The 60-year-old “Today” host recently announced that she will be leaving the popular morning show in the new year. She talked about how her decision to leave her Upper West Side apartment for a more “normal” life with her two kids changed her life.

Kotb told People magazine that the move has not only given her more chances to enjoy some normalcy, but it has also helped her younger daughter deal with the serious health problems that put her in the NICU in February 2023.

Kotb said, “We’re in a place where Hope is thriving.” “We’re keeping an eye on her and she’s getting better. I think we’ll have a better handle on it in time, but we can already see big changes.”

“I have people who can help us.” “I feel like she is getting back on her feet,” Kotb said, but he didn’t say anything else about his daughter’s health.

If you remember back to March, Kotb first said she was thinking about leaving her Manhattan apartment. She talked about all the experiences she, Hope, and Haley, who is seven years old, had made there.

She said on an episode of her show “Making Space” that both Haley and Hope came home there and tried to crawl up the stairs. “It’s like you want to hold on and let go of things.”

Realtor.com broke the news first that Kotb bought a house soon after. It was a center-hall Colonial with four bedrooms and five bathrooms that she paid $2,895,000 for. The records show that she closed on the house in April.

When it came to finding the right family home, Kotb said in August that she had a vision. She said on an episode of “Today” that she wanted to make a “warm and cozy” space where her kids could relax and feel safe.

She said of her move, “It’s all new.” “New kids, new school, new stuff, new everything.” It’s funny, because all I could think about was how I want my kids to feel at home and want to hang out there. That’s all there is to it.

“I want my kids to feel grass on their feet, play in the yard, ride bikes down the street, and run up and down the stairs,” she told People magazine.

Kotb said that her daughters are overjoyed with their new home and all the nice things that come with it.

“They’re thrilled to have their own space and a reading chair—they’re thrilled about a reading chair.” “They’re thrilled to have their own bed and bean bag,” she said.

The former TV host also went on and on about how great things were in her own life, saying how much she loved being able to walk her kids to school.

“That’s how everything changed. She said, “I have a whole new town, school, and everything else.” “On the first day of school, I walked my kids to school with a coffee in my hand and sneakers on, like any other parent would.” “That was great.”

Kotb is also going through more changes. In September, she said she was leaving “Today” to spend more time with her kids.

In a letter to the staff of the NBC morning show that was released on September 26, she said, “My broadcast career has been beyond meaningful. A new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie.” “I’m going to miss you all so much, but I’m ready and excited.”

The TV host hasn’t given up all of her old homes, though. She no longer lives in Manhattan, but Kotb still owns a beach house on Long Island, and she often goes there on the weekends and during the holidays.
