With the news of a six-part documentary series that will premiere on Disney+, Taylor Swift’s dominance of the entertainment industry continues.
The world seems to be obsessed with Taylor Swift.
The world’s biggest singer, and record-setting recording artist, revealed Monday that a six-part documentary series about her final concert tour will premiere on Disney+ in December.
Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” which concluded in December 2024 and was already the subject of a concert movie that made close to $262 million globally, will be chronicled behind the scenes in the series.
Swift’s revelation coincides with a frenzy of releases and promotional appearances. On October 3, her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” and a feature-length behind-the-scenes film were released.
Swift said on her Instagram that the first episodes of the documentary series, along with a performance of her 2024 album “The Tortured Poets Department” in Vancouver, would be accessible on Disney+ on December 12.
“We gave filmmakers permission to document this tour and all the stories interwoven throughout it as it came to an end because we wanted to preserve every moment coming up to the conclusion of the most significant and stressful chapter of our life. “And to shoot the entire final show,” she wrote.
The series, according to Walt Disney Co. (DIS), would provide “an intimate look at Taylor’s life as her tour made headlines and thrilled fans around the world.”
“The series spotlights performers, family members, and friends – including Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, and Florence Welch – offering never-before-seen insight into what it took to create a phenomenon,” Disney stated in a press release.
Following the release of Swift’s most recent album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which set a modern-era record with 3.4 million physical and digital copies sold in its first week, the series was announced.
According to Box Office Mojo, the 90-minute promotional movie that preceded the album’s debut brought in over $50 million worldwide.
With a practically continuous schedule of record releases, concert films, and tours, the 35-year-old singer has enjoyed considerable success. Over $2 billion was made from ticket sales for her most recent concert, “The Eras Tour,” and an additional $6.5 billion was made from the sale of products, food, and beverages.
Swift’s albums have emerged as a key influence on the music business as a whole.
Swift’s 2024 album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” sold 6% of all albums that year. Over seven times as many physical and digital copies of the record were sold in 2024 as the next best-selling artist.
Swift’s most recent album has already surpassed that milestone, becoming her seventh album to sell over a million copies. Only 24 albums have accomplished this since 1991, highlighting the influence a Swift release has on the business. For the first time, Swift’s most recent songs took the top 12 slots on Billboard’s Hot 100, the company announced on Monday.
Swift’s fans have been buying in droves because she has released several vinyl, CD, and cassette tape editions of her albums in recent years. Many of them consider the physical copies to be collector’s items.
With 26.6 billion streams on Spotify (SPOT) alone in 2024, Swifties, as her followers are known, also routinely propel her repertoire to the top of the majority of streaming platforms worldwide.
According to Spotify, Swift’s most recent album broke the previous record for the most streams on its first day of availability.
Swift declared earlier this year that she had repurchased the rights to her first six albums, ending a protracted battle for control of her earlier records and making her back catalog among the most valuable in history.
