Actors Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson are preparing to part ways with one of the most significant homes in their property portfolio: a sprawling Martha’s Vineyard retreat where they tied the knot more than three decades ago, in front of a host of A-list guests, including Tom Hanks and President Bill Clinton.

Steenburgen, 73, and Danson, 78, who met in the early 1980s while auditioning for the same movie, have owned the idyllic 4-acre property for more than two decades-using it as a summer escape, where they have enjoyed picturesque vacations with their four children and their grandchildren.

The property also served as the backdrop for the couple’s 1995 wedding ceremony, which was hosted on the grounds of the Chilmark, Mass., abode, atop a hill next to the dwelling.

Now, they are offering the compound up to a new steward, listing the property for $9.88 million, according to records.

In the years since their nuptials, the duo has continued to spend ample time on Martha’s Vineyard, with Steenburgen previously revealing that they were introduced to the area by Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who are close friends of the actress.

Speaking to the Vineyard Gazette in 2013, the “Book Club” actress admitted that they had never really intended to invest in their own home in the area-but fell in love with the property when they first viewed it.

“It was kind of incredibly old-fashioned, but very sweet. We kept waiting for buyer’s remorse, but it never happened,” she recalled.

Don’t miss: Here’s what’s worth streaming this month on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and more

What makes the dwelling all the more special is the fact that it was the place where the actors’ respective families first “blended,” Steenburgen added. Both she and Danson had been married before the start of their romance and each had two children from their previous relationships.

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, in “Gulliver’s Travels,” 1996. The couple married in 1995.

But the Martha’s Vineyard property served as the place where their blended family was able to relax, bond, and become involved in the local community, where their kids took up summer jobs at local restaurants, markets, and camps.

“It is a place where people have got to know us not as famous people but as neighbors, friends, parents. I really treasure our friendships here because they have substance,” Steenburgen added.

“This is one of the places in life where we allow ourselves to be known, and people got to know us as we are-as the very ordinary people that we are.”

Still, the couple’s Martha’s Vineyard dwelling does afford them ample opportunity to enjoy complete and utter privacy with their loved ones, featuring multiple structures that makes it the perfect place to host guests.

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen attend Netflix’s 2025 Emmy celebration in Hollywood, Calif., last September.

At the heart of the dwelling is the “beautifully appointed main residence,” which is bordered by a detached guesthouse, a separate artist’s studio, and a garage with its own bedroom.

The primary residence features a beautiful open-plan living and dining area, complete with exposed beams, wood walls, and French doors that open directly onto the grounds, while also helping to fill the space with natural light.

The space leads directly to an enclosed patio that overlooks the water and features a separate seating area, ideal for casual meals or for relaxing with family and friends.

For cozier evenings, there is a separate family room, complete with its own fireplace, enormous windows, and the same exposed beams that run through the main living area.

The light and airy kitchen boasts unique yellow floors, as well as large windows on either side of the space that lend it a much more spacious feel. The room has been customized with adorable built-ins that the couple use to store their crockery and glassware-as well as a small dining table for casual meals.

Heading to the primary bedroom, which appears to have been recently renovated, visitors will find a beautifully bright space with vaulted ceilings and French doors that open up to the outside-and the “expansive” water views.

The primary suite also features a red-brick fireplace as well as a beautiful en-suite bathroom with a large soaking tub and a separate walk-in shower.

Another of the bedrooms has been customized with two sets of built-in bunk beds, which Steenburgen has previously showcased on her social media accounts, revealing that they are primarily used by the couple’s grandchildren.

Elsewhere on the property, a quaint artist’s studio features a reading nook, while the guesthouse offers another bedroom, bathroom, and a separate kitchen.

“A truly unique offering, this compound presents an extraordinary opportunity to own a multigenerational retreat in an idyllic setting close to Chilmark town center as well as the conveniences of West Tisbury,” the listing continues.

Danson and Steenburgen have not yet revealed why they have chosen to list the home-which was originally placed on the market in May 2025 for the much higher price of $14 million. However, after failing to find a buyer, the couple chopped $1 million off that ask, before delisting the dwelling altogether in October.

It returned to the market with the much lower price on May 27, records show.

However, it appears that the couple did once have plans to invest more time-and money-in the property, with the listing noting that they “have plans for a pool and pool cabana,” which will be shared with a buyer if they wish to carry out the upgrades themselves.

Even without a pool, the property boasts ample access to the water, courtesy of the private beach access that comes with the dwelling-a sandy path that leads down to a private dock, which the duo appear to have used primarily for kayaking and canoeing.

Records show that the duo also own a property in Ojai, Calif., as well as a dwelling in Santa Monica.

The happy couple celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in October 2025, when Danson gifted Steenburgen a bracelet “crafted from the seashells and sea glass from the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard” in a touching nod to their 1995 wedding location.

Danson also recently opened up about the earliest days of the couple’s romance, revealing during a History Talks panel discussion with the Clintons that “one of the first things” Steenburgen did when they started dating was to take him to the White House to meet the couple.

More from Realtor.com: Mortgage Rates Hit 6.53% Despite Looming Iran Peace Deal: Should You Buy Now or Wait for Global Markets to Calm Down?

As if that wasn’t intimidating enough, Danson said then-President Clinton immediately grilled him about his “intentions” with the actress.

“One of the first things she did was take me to meet her dear friends in the White House,” he recalled. “Bill-Mr. President-took me around the corner, and there were three Secret Service agents behind him, all of them looking at me. The president asked me what my intentions were.”
