Fisker Inc. said on Friday that it is recalling 12,523 cars in North America and Europe because of a problem with the door handles on the outside.
The EV company, which went bankrupt earlier this month, said the problem is with the door handles on Fisker Ocean cars from the 2023–2024 model years.
The door handles “may get stuck because of a broken mechanism.” “This problem needs to be fixed right away to make sure that passengers are safe and can get into and out of the vehicle,” the company said in a statement.
There are 8,204 recalled cars in the US, 513 recalled cars in Canada, and 3,806 recalled cars in Europe. The company thinks that the problem could be in 2.5% of its cars.
The company FSRNQ, -3.51% is going to check all four outer door handles on every vehicle. They will use a special tool that the handle supplier gave them to check the handles’ force.
The door handle will be changed if the tool finds a problem. Evaluations and repairs should be done as soon as possible by the company.
On June 18, Fisker voluntarily called back 18,346 of its Fisker Ocean electric sport-utility vehicles to push out over-the-air (OTA) software updates. At the time, it said that 11,201 Oceans were being called back because the software that controls them could put them into a “safe state protection” mode, which could cause the motor to lose power.
There were also voluntary noncompliance recalls of 7,145 Oceans because they did not meet certain regulatory standards for gauges and icons in the cluster display.
