Polish flag carrier LOT faces a pivotal decision as it navigates the acquisition of 84 new aircraft to bolster its regional fleet. The State Assets Ministry disclosed that LOT will deliberate between its current supplier Embraer and competitor Airbus for this significant procurement venture.
LOT, which presently operates a fleet of 75 aircraft, primarily comprising Embraer planes alongside Boeing B737s and B787s, is set to embark on a thorough evaluation process. The State Assets Ministry announced on Saturday that LOT will soon issue requests for proposals to both Embraer and Airbus, signaling a critical juncture in the carrier’s strategic trajectory.
The Ministry’s statement emphasized the gravity of the decision, stating, “(LOT) is faced with making a strategic decision whether to continue cooperation with the current supplier (Embraer) in the regional segment or to switch to a competitor’s platform (Airbus).”
LOT’s intent to acquire up to 110 aircraft by 2028 underscores the magnitude of the decision-making process. The forthcoming request for proposals aims to scrutinize offerings from both manufacturers, with LOT prioritizing aircraft that align with its operational requirements and growth ambitions.
As the Polish flag carrier navigates this pivotal juncture, the industry awaits the outcome of this critical decision, which could reshape the landscape of regional aviation in Poland and beyond.
