The most recent version of our preferred midsize luxury SUV is the 2025 Genesis GV80. The starting price is $59,050.
The GV80 is the only midsize luxury SUV to have received the KBB Best Buy award since its introduction. Furthermore, we believe that this revival will maintain the GV80’s superior performance.
The GV80 has five seats in its most basic configuration (though that’s a relative word given the high level of standard equipment). With the larger of the two engines available, a third seating row is possible. Just a short disclaimer: the data shown here is exclusive to the Korean domestic market. We anticipate these modifications will be made to the version headed for the US.
Genesis is expanding its independent dealership network to provide a genuine premium car shopping experience. That can only be a good thing, as several of our customer evaluations, although positive about their new GV80, didn’t think that a corner of a Hyundai dealership (Hyundai HYMTF, -1.20% is Genesis’ parent company) was the perfect place to be.
What’s interesting for 2025
After making its debut for the 2021 model year, a refresh is warranted. Some minor cosmetic changes include new headlights on either side of a bigger but shorter (from top to bottom) grille, and the exhaust pipes are now disguised. Additional improvements are made to the cabin, most notably the addition of a new display unit with an infotainment touchscreen and an instrument cluster.
Both engines gain a little more power. There’s also an all-new 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe, which is reviewed separately.
On-sale date
The 2025 Genesis GV80 will go on sale this summer.
2025 Genesis GV80 pricing
The 2025 Genesis GV80 starts at $59,050. That’s for the base version with the smaller engine, yet it’s still well-equipped and comes with all-wheel drive as standard. The cost of entry for the stronger turbo V6 engine is $75,150.
GV80 2.5T Standard | $59,050 |
GV80 2.5T | $60,050 |
GV80 2.5T Select | $62,950 |
GV80 2.5T Advanced | $66,950 |
GV80 2.5T Prestige | $71,800 |
GV80 3.5T Advanced | $75,150 |
GV80 3.5T Prestige | $80,650 |
When all the usual features are taken into consideration, the GV80 is seen as something of a deal, although it is not the least expensive device in the class. Starting in the low 50s are the Acura MDX, Lincoln Nautilus, and Lexus RX. The Volvo XC90 debuts in the upper 50s, while the three-row Lexus TX begins in the mid-50s. The BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE are more expensive, starting about $60K, but the Audi Q7 is priced around $60K.

Strength, handling, and ride
The 2025 GV80 luxury SUV has undergone changes that result in a 4-horsepower increase to 304 horsepower for the 2.5T, which is enough power to go from a standstill to 60 mph in around six seconds. Most people would undoubtedly find it to be sufficient, but luxury consumers typically demand something better.
The more common engine choice is a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine that produces 380 horsepower (up from 375 in 2024). This puts the GV80’s 60-mph sprint time of 5.3 seconds on par with the standard BMW X5. More equipment is also included, such an adjustable suspension for optimal comfort that is carefully controlled.
In any case, we like operating the GV80. The ride quality of this SUV has been fine-tuned by Genesis to match its opulent features.
We’ve driven and assessed this generation of premium midsize SUVs, including the Genesis GV80, for hundreds of hours.
Fuel efficiency
We expect the GV80’s fuel efficiency numbers for 2025 to remain relatively unchanged from the previous year, even with the additional power. 22 combined mpg are obtained by the 2024 2.5T (20 city, 24 highway). The 3.5T gets 20 mpg overall (18 in the city and 23 on the interstate). Both engines demand premium petrol.
The 2024 2.5T outperforms the Acura MDX in terms of MPG by one. The Lexus RX 350 with all-wheel drive gets 24 combined mpg. At 25 combined mpg, the BMW X5 xDrive40i is also far more fuel-efficient than the 3.5T.
Interior with lots of technology
The cabin of the GV80 will see some changes in 2025. A solitary 27-inch-diagonal display unit is the most noticeable modification. Digital instruments are located in front of the driver, and the infotainment touchscreen is located above the revamped centre console. The example of the steering wheel changes from having two to three spokes. 14.6-inch displays are part of the second-row optional rear-seat entertainment system. Earth Brown, Bordeaux Brown, and Glacier White are the new interior colours.
The GV80’s materials and construction quality are adequately luxurious, much like any other luxury SUV. The seats in the second row fold and divide 40/20/40. Additionally, the third-row seats are 50/50 fitted where they are. There is 38 inches of legroom in the second row, which is plenty for average-sized persons. The youngest, shortest, and most adaptable family members are better suited for the third row thanks to its 30.3 inches of legroom. The maximum load capacity when the second and third rows are folded down is 84 cubic feet. In general, that’s really decent for the class, although the Acura MDX performs better.
Elegant outside
For 2025, the GV80 grille becomes larger and shallower, and the exhaust pipes are hidden from view. Overall, we believe that the GV80 now appears even more opulent and costly than it did previously. According to a few of our customer reports, people frequently mistake their Genesis GV80 for a Bentley. This situation is probably not going to change.
Our preferred features and technology
Warmth
Standard equipment on the GV80 includes a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. These are usually accessories that are optional on competing cars. Furthermore, they are really useful to have in the winter.
Monitor with Blind Spot View
This function goes above and beyond basic blind-spot detection by displaying live video on the side of the car on the digital driver’s display when the turn signal is engaged. It provides an additional degree of security just before you change lanes. Included in the Advanced package is the monitor.
peaceful cabin
The GV80 is appropriately quiet for a premium SUV since it comes with acoustic laminated glass for the front side windows and windscreen on all models. Genesis claims to have enhanced the soundproofing of the tailboard.
Electronic Key
Conventional keys are replaced with phone apps, which have the further benefit of allowing several users to share access.
Audio by Bang & Olufsen
Excellent Lexicon sound systems have been available in Genesis cars up until now, but that appears to be about to change in 2025. It appears that B&O systems are currently being used by the firm. That’s hardly even a regression. Excellent B&O audio has been heard a lot in goods from Audi and Aston Martin.
A Prestige Signature
Fine Nappa leather upholstery and two power-adjustable captain’s seats for the second row are characteristics of the highest-grade GV80 3.5T trim.
Transmission and engine
The GV80 midsize SUV has been updated for 2025; it has the same engines but increases their power. The standard engine is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 311 lb-ft of torque and 304 horsepower. A 3.5-liter V6 turbocharged engine producing 380 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque is the improvement.
There is an 8-speed automatic gearbox attached to both engines. Standard across the 2025 GV80 range is all-wheel drive. Either powerplant has a 6,000 pound maximum towing capability.
Warranty: 5 years/60,000 miles
Similar to Hyundai, its parent company, Genesis provides the greatest warranties available. Scheduled maintenance is free for the first three years or 36,000 miles, the new car guarantee lasts for five years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first), and powertrains are covered for ten years or 100,000 miles. Additionally, roadside assistance is included for five years with unlimited mileage.
Safety rankings
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the current GV80 SUV generation its highest honour, a Top Safety Pick+. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded it a maximum 5-Star overall grade. We anticipate that the 2025 model will pass these tests.
