CEO Jensen Huang said on Sunday that Nvidia Corp. plans to release a new family of AI chips every year.
Huang said that Nvidia NVDA, -0.78% plans to release the Blackwell Ultra chip in 2025 and the next-generation Rubin chip platform with new GPUs and a new Arm-based CPU called Vera in 2026. Huang spoke at a keynote address in Taiwan on Sunday before the Computex trade show.
An Nvidia blog post says he said, “Our company has a one-year rhythm.” New chips from Nvidia used to come out about every two years.
Huang didn’t give many other details, but he did say that the chipmaker’s fast pace is because AI technology has come a long way.
Huang said, “The future of computing is faster.” “Our advances in AI and faster computing are pushing the limits of what’s possible and launching the next wave of technological progress.”
Huang also talked up the fact that Nvidia chips can save money and energy. He pointed out that Nvidia’s new chips offer much faster performance with very little extra power use. “Accelerated computing is sustainable computing,” he said.
Nvidia has the most advanced AI chips on the market, and its stock price has gone through the roof in the last year.
On Friday, Nvidia stock fell about 1%. However, it is up almost 25% in the last month and 121% so far this year.
