Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, announced on Wednesday the company’s commitment to providing AI skilling opportunities to 2 million people in India by 2025. The initiative will primarily target individuals in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, as well as rural areas, aiming to unlock inclusive socio-economic progress, according to a company statement.
Nadella stressed the importance of cooperation between India and the United States in establishing AI norms and regulations. Speaking at a conference in Mumbai, he expressed hope for a global consensus on rules to facilitate the diffusion of AI technology. Nadella underlined the potential for the global spread of AI to lead to an “equal distribution of economic growth.”
As Microsoft takes a significant step towards empowering individuals in smaller Indian cities with AI skills, the initiative aligns with broader discussions on fostering collaboration and setting standards for the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
